Hyperemesis Gravidarum for the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton

Hyper wha? Hyperemesis Gravidarum is what has put the duchess in the hospital for terrible morning sickness.

A recent Washington Post article discusses the intensity of the disease on one family and how it motivated them to pull together information for patients and of all things…educate doctors.

I myself had this same disease and like the author above, was not given any advice on how to deal with the symptoms.  I oftn did not eat until dinner time and was on bed rest for 6 months because of an early separation of the pubic symphsis; well discussed at Hyperemesis Education and Research (HER) forums.  Note the article discusses liver disorders which I have to this day from 16 years ago.  Though my liver labs are normal, I have constant pain on the right side that ultrasound has not found a reason for. Lucky me!

Interestingly it does have a genetic component as a study had found that relatives of people with HG had a higher percentage chance of having HG as well.  I wonder which gene or combination of genes might be responsible?

Also happening during pregnancies, diabetes mellitus,  and edema…hmmm which gene?
